Theater

It’s theater season in Southern Utah! Of course there’s the big ones—Tuacahn, the Utah Shakespearean Festival, and the Neil Simon Festival, but St. George has some smaller theaters you might want to check out.

St. George Musical Theater
Southern Utah’s most successful community theater, playing in the historic St. George Opera House. This summer’s line up includes: Little Shop of Horrors, running from June 28 to July 21, and Hello, Dolly, running August 16 to September 15.

Brigham’s Playhouse
Located approximately nine miles from Arcadia Vacation Resort, Brigham’s Playhouse is a family owned and run theater. Founded in 2013, this theater offers Broadway-caliber theater for the whole family. This summer they’ll be performing South Pacific August 23 to September 29.

Snow Canyon

If the St. George weather is just too good for you to stay indoors, there are several great hikes in Snow Canyon. Located in Ivins, Utah, Snow Canyon is just a short 15-minute drive from Arcadia Vacation Resort.

Some of the popular hikes in Snow Canyon include:

Johnson Canyon Trail

This is a short hike (1.8 miles round trip) at the mouth of Snow Canyon. It features a natural spring, black lava flows, red rock walls, cottonwood trees, and a natural stone arch near the end—with a 200-foot span, it’s one of the largest arches in the area.

Lava Flow Overlook Trail

This family friendly hike (about 2.5 miles round trip) goes past three lava tubes and meanders through a lava filed. You can explore the lava tubes, so be sure to bring a flashlight with you. Or check out Snow Canyon’s Event page—guided tours of the lava tubes are available through the park services.

Petrified Dunes

This hike (about 1.2 miles round trip) takes you through the fascinating landscape of what was once flowing mountains of sand. The petrified dunes are made from the sediment of an ancient sea and rise 300 feet above the canyon floor.

Remember to be safe out in the desert heat!

  • Never hike alone, and always tell friends or family members where you plan to be.
  • Avoid hiking when temperatures are extreme.
  • Wear a hat and sunscreen.
  • Always carry water with you—at least one liter for each person.
  • Rock climbing is fun—but it’s always dangerous. You should only attempt it in allowed areas of the canyon with the proper equipment.
Local Flavor

If you’re looking for a little local flavor, look no farther than Streetfest located on Main Street and Town Square in down-town St. George. Streetfest takes place the first Friday of every month from now to October. Streetfest includes local arts, bands, vendors, food, and activities and events for every age.

Some of the events include live music at the Desert Pulse Jazz Garden (with dancing, beer, and wine); the vendor village—featuring over 30 arts and crafts vendors; Food Truck Row; and entertainment on the Main Street Stage. Streetfest goes from 6:00 p.m. to midnight.
